ALIEN
PUBLISHED IN FOLIO 2023: VOL. 38.
The moon is my right lung—
I see the fullness of its glowglobe,
Its soft teeth sunken-in liké an ostrich egg—
Soft & tasty like blubber, a strange edible sponge
Or a decorative, uneatable birthday cake—
So gorgeous ! Ghostly in its alienesque appearance,
Hanging on like an ex-husband, disturbed & distressed
Looking back in awe— showing its’ new grandstand—
An oblong odyssey in the sky, as life-like
As a mannequin, naked in its perfect skin,
Huggable like a blue body pillow hidden between
Desperate thighs. At last I see the alien as transcendent
But as real as nightlight
Hanging heavenly over my porch windows.
I want to grab it and hug it. It is my solid godseye—
I want to climb aboard and enter spacetime.
